Mental Performance Consulting

Train the mind like the body

Non-clinical, skill-based training for athletes, teams, and organizations nationwide. Structured programming, measurable objectives, and language that fits the environment you compete or operate in. Available in person or virtually.

Important distinction

Performance work is not therapy

Mental performance consulting is educational and skill-focused. It does not diagnose or treat mental health conditions and is not a substitute for clinical care.

Paul is pursuing Certified Mental Performance Consultant® (CMPC) certification through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP), and is an LMHCA in Washington State (Credential #MHCA.MC.70147923), practicing counseling under the supervision of Jonathan Douglas, MS, LMHC, NCC. The two services are kept separate and the boundary is discussed openly. If something belongs in a clinical setting, we name it and connect you to the right care.

Do the work.

Mental skills are not personality traits. They are trained through repetition, honest evaluation, and the willingness to own the next step.

Curriculum

Skills we build

Attention control

Choosing where focus goes, holding it under noise, and recovering it quickly after a mistake or interruption.

Arousal regulation

Breath, tempo, and physiological control so intensity lands where the task requires instead of where nerves put it.

Confidence architecture

Building belief on evidence and preparation rather than momentum, streaks, or the last rep.

Routines & rehearsal

Pre-performance sequences, imagery, and mental reps that make execution repeatable when conditions change.

Adversity response

Reset protocols for errors, bad calls, injuries, and days where nothing is working.

Recovery & load management

Sleep, downshifting, and cognitive recovery treated as trainable inputs, not afterthoughts.

Engagements

What it looks like

Individuals

One-to-one work with an athlete, coach, or operator on composure under pressure, pre-competition and pre-mission mental routines, and the clarity that turns talent into consistent execution.

Teams

Improving communication under stress, building a shared language around pressure and setbacks, and developing trust so the team performs the same in the tunnel as in practice.

Organizations & units

Leadership development and performance-culture work that helps leaders set clear expectations, build resilient teams, and create environments where people perform at their best when it matters most.

Team sessions

Workshops for teams & units

Team sessions are built around the demands of your competitive or operational calendar. They are not therapy; they are structured, skill-based work designed to improve how the group performs under pressure.

  • Communication under stress: teach athletes and operators to stay clear, direct, and useful when intensity rises.
  • Shared language: build a common vocabulary for pressure, setbacks, and recovery so the team responds instead of reacts.
  • Trust & leadership: develop the accountability and ownership that let leaders lead and teammates rely on each other in high-stakes moments.
  • Consistent execution: connect standards to practice to performance so the team performs the same way in the tunnel as it does in training.

Sessions can be delivered as a single workshop, a multi-session series, or an ongoing team consulting engagement.
